Oddjobbers

Seniors and people with physical disabilities: do you have any "odd jobs" that need doing? OddJobbers to the rescue!

"OddJobbers" is a new service for seniors and people with physical disabilities. Jewish Social Services volunteers can be sent to help you with some of those little but important things that you just can't do anymore.

The OddJobbers program is not meant to replace the help that family members provide, though it could occasionally be a supplement. If you live in an apartment where the landlord takes care of these things, then you should continue to call your landlord. However, OddJobbers are available to do what your landlord doesn't do.

We're running a two-month pilot project to see how this goes. The more requests we get to which we can send our volunteers, the more likely it is that the program will continue after the pilot project ends in April. The program will only continue if we hear from you that you need it.

A very brief list of what OddJobbers will do: This is a very brief list of what OddJobbers will NOT do:
  • Change batteries in your smoke alarm
  • Flip mattresses
  • Change light bulbs
  • Program your VCR, or thermostat
  • Hang a picture
  • Repot plants
  • Set up voice mail
  • Assemble something
  • Minor plumbing
  • Remodeling
  • Electrical work
  • Most plumbing
  • Heavy lifting
  • Yard work
  • Painting

To request an OddJobber, contact Louise Goldstein at 278-1808, ext 227 or louise@jssmadison.org. We'll see if it's something we can help you with, and have a volunteer OddJobber contact you. OddJobbers would appreciate if you have more than one task for them to do at the same time. We will run the pilot project for two months and will ask you to evaluate your experience.
