Capitol Lakes Shabbat with Rabbi Renee Bauer or Rabbi Andrea Steinberger

Please join your neighbors, volunteers and Jewish Social Services staff for candle lighting, challah, wine, songs and discussion to usher in Shabbat, along with the opportunity to recite Kaddish. We look forward to spending this special time together with you! We celebrate Shabbat at Capitol Lakes on the first Friday of each month, led by JSS Rabbi Renee Bauer or Hillel Rabbi Andrea Steinberger, with assistance from JSS Staff and UW-Hillel student volunteers.

Russian Series: Grandmother’s Recipes

The JSS Russian Series presents events to the Russian-speaking community on a variety of engaging topics. Oftentimes the events are lead by seniors, and they are always conducted entirely in the Russian language. RSVP required – contact JSS Director of Family and Senior Services, Maya Garbuz for more information and to register. This week:

A cooking class for Russian speaking children, led by seniors who will share recipes on traditional Russian cuisine.

JSS Quarterly Consultation

Our Quarterly Community Consultation on Refugee Resettlement in the Madison area will take place at 3pm on Wednesday, December 14th, via Zoom. If you know someone else who would like to be invited to this quarterly meeting, please let Jakob know and he can add them to the list.

2.            JSS Update: Update – Immigrant Town Hall, MHPSS Groups, Aljirani Madison                         program
3.            Outreach efforts – Asylees and other populations, eligibility for family reunification
4.            Update on Refugee Reception and Placement, FY 2023 capacity, CARA, Co-                         sponsorship models
5.            FY2023 arrivals, demographics, case size, and where refugees are coming from,                   approved placement numbers.
6.            Updates from the State Refugee Coordinator’s Office, Bureau of Refugee Programs
7.            Participants’ updates, capacity to serve number of arrivals: suggestions, input.

Oakwood Shabbat and Hanukkah Celebration!

A Friday erev Shabbat service led by Rabbi Renee Bauer, with assistance from additional JSS staff. We will also celebrate Hanukkah on this day! Join us as we light candles, eat Challah, say Kiddush, and sing songs around the table, every third Friday of the month.
