Join us for a special Shabbat! Guest speaker, Jon Pollack, will lead a teaching and discussion about The History of Jews in the Recycling Industry. Jon is a retired professor from Madison College and a Beth Israel Center member. He is researching and writing a fascinating book of Jews in the scrap metal industry.

We will also enjoy a standard Erev Shabbats service, led by Rabbi Renee Bauer, with assistance from additional JSS staff and volunteers. We will light candles, eat Challah, say Kiddush, and sing songs around the table. The service takes place in the Westmoreland Room behind the front desk of the main entrance. The Jewish tradition is filled with practical wisdom that can help us age with more hope, resilience, and good humor. In this conversation, Holocaust scholar and certified life coach Rachel Baum shares three wise voices from different time periods of Jewish life. How can these voices be put to use today in giving us inspiration in creating a life of intention and joy? What are some essential tools for overcoming obstacles in this pursuit?

Rachel teaches courses on the Holocaust and American Jewish culture. She is also a certified life coach and host of the podcast, Making Midlife Magic, where she offers weekly insights on how to create a life of joy and meaning.

Join JSS social workers Maya Garbuz and Kate Shenker for our monthly Memory Cafe! A meeting place for designed for people experiencing memory issues, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. Socialize, find support and build community without the stigma associate with dementia. Each month, we have a different presenter come in to lead activities with the group, plus snacks and a short stretching/movement activity. All are welcome at this free event.
