Chris Brockel (pictured on the right) is the FEED Kitchens Manager and Healthy Food for All Coordinator He will speak to us about the Healthy Food for All initiatives: collecting, cleaning, and aggregating local farm produce, and the recovery of prepared food from events and large cafeterias. This talk will include an overview of the food waste issue and where the movement to prevent this from becoming landfill waste is going. It would be hard to ignore the fact that we are in the midst of a pandemic, so he will also discuss food security, local responses, and regional food systems planning in response to lessons learned from the pandemic.
Chris Brockel was the Food and Gardens Division Manager at Community Action Coalition, coordinating food pantries in Dane, Jefferson and Waukesha Counties along with building the Community Garden initiative in Madison and Dane County. After a short stint as the Executive Director at Fair Share CSA Coalition, Chris left to start Healthy Food for All – a food recovery program. That program was soon folded in with services at FEED Kitchens, a food business incubator, where Chris is also the manager of the facility.

Let’s have a conversation with Rabbi Renee Bauer, JSS Community Chaplain, about telling and listening, and the role of our stories – whether large or small, funny or sad. How do we make meaning and identity out of our stories?
Storytelling is a uniquely human endeavor that has many functions. It can heal us by helping to work through difficult events in our past and finding new ways of understanding them. Telling stories can build a sense of belonging to a community by creating a shared narrative. –Rabbi Renee Bauer, JSS Community Chaplain
