This award-winning documentary captures the experience of four families, refugees from Syria, as they struggle to adjust to life in Baltimore.

After the 90-minute film, community leaders will facilitate small group discussions on the film’s topics and discuss refugee resettlement programs in Madison and local refugee experiences. Light refreshments will be served.

The June 17th event is a screening of the award-winning film, “This is Home,” followed by a panel discussion with Madison residents of refugee background and resettlement staff. “This is Home,” follows four Syrian refugee families as they are resettled in the US.

Rabbi Eric Weiss of the Bay Area Jewish Healing Center in San Francisco

Rabbi Steinberger serves at the Hillel at the University of Wisconsin. Since 1999 she has provided opportunities for students on the UW campus to explore spiritual practices, experience Jewish learning, ask difficult questions and come together for Shabbat and holidays.

Rabbi Steinberger will talk about recent campus culture – here in Wisconsin and internationally. She will address what has changed in the campus dialogue and awareness – about the Holocaust, the State of Israel, and cultural norms, from one generation to another.

Join our Madison ambassadors from Israel, Danielle Man and Gal Ben Yishay, Jewish Federation of Madison Shlichim/Israel Program Specialists, for a presentation and discussion in honor of Israel Independence Day: Yom HaAtzmaut which is celebrated on April 29.

The program will include Israeli trivia and an update on Israeli politics.
